Nigeria: Fresh Set-Back For Bakassi Treaty - This Day

The House of Represent-atives may not ratify the Green Tree Agreement between Nigeria and Cameroon signed by former president Olusegun Obasanjo ceding the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon.

This is a show of complete lack of effective leadership and a polity that is driven by completely unpatriotic politicians. Seemingly, some politicians that are being paid and controlled by some foreign influences are, to satisfy their foreign clients, are surreptitiously drawing the country nearer to war with the Cameroons. WHAT A SHAME!

The House of Representative as the last hope of the common man should throw away the Green Tree Agreement, not minding any said economic benefit of the deal. Following due process is very important to us as a nation, if not so tomorow we will wake up to see our selves in the hands of another country as a result of a single action of one selfish individual in power. Especially with our new derive of operating a citizen-centric diplomacy, our fellow nigerians occupying the Bakassi penisula need to be protected from continued neo-colonialist domination of the babaric cameroonian genderms.

Hi ubabdulkadir !!! I think this issue of Bakassi is not what anyone who is myopic should contribute hs own quota of naivity in international affairs.

First the ruling attributing Bakassio to Cameroon comes from the International court of justice and not from the Nigerian supreme court. Point 2, the Green tree agreement was signed inthe presence of some super powers, Britain ,The USA,and France.

Point 3, President Obasanjo didn't sign this agreement in his bedroom. The whole nation was aware of it and the so called law makers were not babies by then.

The senate is just trying to prove to the world at large and Nigerians as a whole that they want to risk the lives of Nigerians in a worthless battle which in no wy can Nigeria win if they try to undermind this UN decision. CONSEQUENCES; Any breach of the above ruling by the ICJ will put Nigeria in an uncomfortable situation which may be regreted .The reason for bringing in witnesses is that in case of breach of contract, the super powers will do all the can to equipe Cameroon with the necessary weapons to take either by force or by peace what had been given to them.

We should look beyond our noses. If not why didn't Ghana, Niger or even Libya be the witnesses?

We should forget this lost battle and see on how to resettle our displaced rather than fanning the flames of war.
