THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) yesterday asked President Kgalema Motlanthe to request his predecessor Thabo Mbeki to continue as Zimbabwe's mediator following a deadlock over the allocation of ministries between rival political parties.
The SADC should really try to nominate somebody else. The arrogant Mbeki was too close to Mugabe to have even been allowed to arbitrate in such highly contentious elections. Now is not the time to bring Mbeki back when his political career is dead. Without the clout of the presidential office nobody has any more regard for Mbeki neither, especially, would the vallainous Mugabe. An arrogant politician is an oxymoron.
Mbeki is a deeply wounded person for the time being. Only time can soothe away his wounded feelings. He should, however, know, and draw comfort from the fact that most enlightened observers have saluted his statesmanship over his decision to resign in dignity.
The only person, nay lunatic, who found that Mbeki ought not have resigned is the dictator Mugabe.
In the present circumstances, Mbeki is not the right person to continue his role of facilitator in the Zimbabwe talks. Africa should protect him from further humiliation by, this time, a heartless evil Mugabe.
If ever dictator Mugabe wanted to show gratefulness towards Mbeki, it was now when Mbeki is at his lowest moral. Mugabe could have marked Mbeki's departure from power by allowing Tsvangirai also to go to the UN meeting. They could have both heaped praise on Mbeki for his feat in bringing them together and to pledge to the international community to work together for the higher interest of Zimbabweans in full respect of Mbeki.
On the contrary, lunatic Mugabe in New york told the US and UK that he had never been against them and appealed for lifting of selected sanctions. He kept mum on Mbeki's role and ignored Tsvangirai.
Lunatic Mugabe likes to act as the main buffoon of the circus.
He will not hesitate to twist and humiliate Mbeki should the latter ever naively accepts to continue as facilitator.
Whatever happens, the world will remember Mbeki as a statesman with a conscience and Mugabe as an evil, selfish, manipulative, illegitimate president of a rotten banana republic.
