South Africa: Bloodless Surgery Comes to South Africa

Johannesburg — By December this year major private hospital group Netcare will be switching to "bloodless medicine and surgery" via a new Blood Conservation Programme in some of its hospitals.

Sensitive screening tests for HIV and other infectious conditions have now resulted in much safer donor blood, but these tests are not infallible.
