Africa's judo and boxing Olympians suffered across-the-board defeats on September 21:

Boxing

In the Heavyweight division, Mohamed Azzaoui of Algeria lost when the referee stopped his contest after Frenchman Jackson Chanet inflicted a headblow in round 2. In another bout, the referee stopped the fight in round 4 when Amro Mostafa Mahmoud of Egypt was injured by Vladimir Tchantouria of Georgia.

In the Welterweight division, Kamel Chater of Tunisia was defeated on points by Ruslan Khairov of Azerbaijan, by 8-13. In the Bantamweight division, Hichem Blida of Algeria was beaten on points by Alisher Rahimov of Uzbekistan (8-17).

Judo

In the men's Half-heavyweight, Bassel Elgharbawy of Egypt was defeated by Pedro Soares of Portugal and Sami Belgroun of Algeria by Stephane Traineau of France.

In the women's Half-heavyweight division, Melanie Engoang of Gabon lost to Uta Kuehnen of Germany, and Akissi Monney of Cote d'Ivoire to Heidi Rakels of Belgium.
