THE Central Archdiocesan Caritas Women's Association, an umbrella organisation to promote the socio-economic empowerment of Christian women, has been launched in Namugongo Martyrs' Shrine.

The deputy chief justice, Leticia Kikonyogo, launched the association recently. The association derives its principles and objectives from Caritas, an international socio-economic development and relief organisation of the Catholic Church.

The chairperson, Sarah Kiggundu, said their major priority was to improve the socio-economic status of vulnerable women through the formation of women groups and provision of micro-finance services.

"We encourage women to form associations, which we then use to sensitise them on issues of social development and health. We also help them to access micro-loans, which they use to start income-generating activities and improve existing businesses," Kiggundu said.
