Eight cities have confirmed playing in the East and Central African inter-cities basketball championships scheduled to take place from June 24 at Dar es Salaam's National Indoor Stadium.

The President of the East and Central Africa Inter Cities Basketball Federation, Simon Msoffe named the cities as Nairobi, Kampala, Bujumbura, Kisumu, Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Lusaka and Mombasa.

Msoffe said more teams were expected to enter the championships before the deadline set for the end of this month.

"There are several more cities that have expressed their interest in competing in the championships and we expect them to confirm their participation in the next few days," he said.

Dar es Salaam and Nairobi are the only cities that have confirmed competing in both the men's and women's events.

The rest of the cities will send their men's teams.

Msoffe said, however, that the organisers expected more teams to enter their women's teams as well before the entry deadline.

He added that the inter-cities tournament had grown over the years to be one of the most important basketball events in the region.
