"Peace and Unity have been the cornerstones of Cameroon's development. As we celebrate the May 20, 2008 National Day, I can say that peace has been a priceless commodity. All nations strive for peace. Cameroon has exhibited a lot of maturity in the way it resolves problems that would have disrupted peace.
I think that virtually all Cameroonians are conscious of the fact that we need peace and when you have a whole community striving for one objective then it is achieved. That
Apart, the unity of Cameroon is important for its development. Being united gives us a larger market and free movement of goods and people. Our peace and our unity also encourage development with the freedom to invest where ever a Cameroonian wants on the national territory. Cameroon's unity is an advantage for small and large scale investors .You see that most of those in the informal sector in the North West are not necessarily from the province. A trader in the market develops the country in his or her own way and he or she needs peace to operate.
Perhaps, I should say that Cameroon's peace and unity have placed the nation on the pedestal in Africa and the world. We are looked upon as a country with a sense of direction. Cameroonians out of their country appreciate our peace even more than when they are back home. Our peace and unity attract foreign investors. In effect; I will advise those who are against our unity to rethink their ways. The world is in favour of larger units. We have many tribes in Cameroon and we are by far better off as a united people. There is a lot more to benefit as a larger, peaceful and united people . We must not allow the population to be misled by a few who preach the doctrine of secession while they exploit the ignorance of some for selfish interests. Unity is strength"
