The present grant are attributed to students from various state universities in Cameroon. The operation started in January 2008.

These grants are grouped under the following categories : Firstly, for academic excellence, which is for students of level two to five, secondly, for young science girls, thirdly for Doctorate students and handicapped students or those having serious social problems. The criteria to benefit from this aid include: the student should be registered into a state university, he or she should be amongst the first of his discipline or level (excellence), he or she should be at least in level two, justify that one is handicapped (social cases).There are specific cases whereby grants are accorded to young science girls .University grant in cash ranges from 75.000 to100.000 . Students do not need to process any document before benefiting from this grant. Rectors of universities channel to the ministry of higher education the list of student qualified to benefit from these aids

The students of the University of Yaounde I have received their university grants.The first group of students got theirs on Monday 28th April 2008, and for the second group, it was on the 6th May 2008.

Paul, a level II student of computer science from the University of Yaounde I said it was not quite difficult for him to get his money.He said:"we were asked to come at 9:00 am, but the bursar arrived at 11:00am because it had rained. We got a shelter somewhere and after the bursar had settled down,he asked us to line up according to our various disciplines.He later asked for my identiy cards and gave me a sum of one hundred thousands francs. He was very surprised because I thanked him whereas others did not. I used this money to buy a computer which is indispensable for someone like me doing computer science".

Serge, a level II student of mathematics, from the same university said:"I did not encounter any problem getting my money.The fact that I was paid late helped me to exercise patience and the money I received helped me to clear my debts and register for government entrances examination ,even though it was not enough because of my many needs .I suggest that payment should always be done on time." Students are already looking forward to the next academic year.
