The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) said yesterday that gains of the privatisation programme could be stifled without the passage of nine outstanding reform bills into law.
Mrs. Irene Chigbue, Director-General of BPE, made the statement at a one-day retreat for members of the Publicity and Mobilisation Committee (PMC) of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP).
Chigbue said the bills had elapsed since 2007.
The bills include the Downstream Gas bill, Petroleum Industry Reform, National Transport Commission, Inland Waterway, and Ports and Harbour Authorities.
Others are National Railway bill, Federal Competition bill, Road Sector Reform bill and Postal Sector reform bill.
"Since the bills were not passed during the last parliamentary administration, they had elapsed in accordance with the legislative rules, and we had to start the whole process afresh.
"In fact, we took liberty of the non-passage to do an extensive review of the bills, so as to allow the new set of political leaders make their input.(NAN)
