THE Uganda Tourist Board has assured tourists of safety despite reports that a Dutch tourist died from the deadly Marburg virus she is thought to have caught from bats while touring caves in the country.

Marburg is a contagious disease that causes sudden bleeding and high fever.

UTB said in a statement issued this morning that the Marburg case was an isolated incident and that investigations are continuing to establish the actual origin of the virus.

"Uganda Tourist Board would like to assure all tourists in the country and all intending visitors that there is no eminent threat to them what so ever," the board said.

"The unfortunate Marburg case was isolated and investigations are continuing to establish the actual origin of virus,"

The board also said that there was no Health threat in any other part of the country and that visits should continue as planned. It however advised tour operators and tourists to observe health measures as may be required.
