The Weekly Observer (Kampala)

Posted to the web 17 July 2008

Following our lead story in which a certain Emmanuel Nyabayongo accused Vice-President, Prof Gilbert Bukenya of grabbing his wife, Bukenya's office has issued a statement saying that the NRM mobiliser in question, is being used by some people to malign the VP. Read Bukenya's full statement below...

Please refer to a shocking report published by the Weekly Observer Newspaper of Thursday July 17th titled 'Bukenya grabbed my wife, says driver," by Shifa Mwesigye.

It was unfortunate that such a reputable newspaper chose to exclusively dedicate so much space to rumblings of a greedy, desperate man Emmanuel Nyabayongo who is also a sexually pervert and a scorned woman Jamillah Nakku to try and destroy the reputation or the Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya. Shocking report because it took a quick investigative team to actually identify who exactly Nyabayongo is and why he would make such wild allegations using equally shocking rumours relied to him by a woman who once tried so desperately to destroy Prof. Bukenya's reputation and family, Jamillah Nakku. It was more frustrating that the newspaper did not even bother to get to the ground to seek out what exactly is the character of the person of Emmanuel Nyabayongo.

The only truth in the Weekly Observer report is that Nyabayongo was once a resident of Kakiri and is also married to a woman called Kabasinguzi Akiiki and they are or used to be staunch supporters of the NRM government and Prof. Bukenya as an area member of parliament in particular.

Everything else is a carefully crafted report meant to create sympathy for a man and woman who tried so desperately to blackmail the Vice President into giving them large sums of money.

While the matter referred to is of a private matter and needs to be extensively investigated, it also gives Prof. Bukenya an opportunity to take all available options to seek redress from the individuals mentioned and the newspaper that sought to promote their negative lies. This is indeed a delicate balance of family, politics, hate and greed for money and must be handled with the sensitivity that it deserves.

Kabasinguzi is the third and legally married wife of Nyabayongo, the man having abandoned his first and second wives. The second wife, a one Namusisi of Bwaise even sued Nyabayongo for child neglect after he claimed he was not the father of his own children and he was detained at Nabweru court for a while. He was only saved with intervention from his friends from the embassy of Rwanda and subsequently retired in public interest. The first wife left him to settle in Gulu.

According to information available to us, Nyabayongo and his estranged wife separated mainly because of him being a sexual pervert who once preyed on his niece and daughters, a neighbours child and a visitor. This has been a major cause of concern for the couple who separated and the wife fled to Fort portal her home area and settled there. Their problems became worse after he sneaked five of his children to Rwanda and had come to claim another but got stranded. That is when they started the whole idea of getting money from Bukenya the rich man.

Politically powerful, rich and influential people, particularly men like Prof. Bukenya are bound to attract all kind of attention and this is not any different than that expressed through this report. It is however our responsibility to seek the truth before feeding the public on reports that can only harm the people involved and divert them from their responsibilities.

People who are desperate and frustrated out of their own actions like Nyabayongo must not be used to fight political and personal woes like the Weekly Observer has done. Whichever diversions being created for Prof. Bukenya to abandon his mobilisation for prosperity for all, actions like these can only make him more committed to do that which is right.

Hmmm, Linda has heightened and widened the tentacles when she mentioned the sleazy marriage of the Nyabayongos. It all sums up so far as Charles-Diana-Camilla's triangle of "crowded marriage".
