Kibaale district local government has banned the transportation of heavy loads across the Kabahuna wooden bridge that was recently constructed by the army.

Ismael Kasooha reports that this follows public outcry that the bridge was at the brink of breaking due to overloaded lorries crossing it with timber destined for Kampala from Kyebando sub-county.

The LC5 chairman, George Namyaka, warned timber dealers against using the bridge, saying they would be arrested and their licences cancelled. He was Wednesday addressing timber dealers in Kibaale town at the district headquarters.

The acting district forest officer, Wilson Kyamuhondire, warned pitsawyers against cutting down more trees than their licenses permitted.

He urged them to plant more trees to protect the environment and sustain their business.
