Allegations of widespread rigging in the July 5 local council elections have forced National Electoral Commission (NEC) in the Kono district to recount all votes received from polling stations that may have generated such complaints.

District elections officer Mohamed Kamara said the complaints were as a result of controversies among party agents and independent candidates' representatives at various polling stations on the day of elections.

He said recounts were done in Ward 76 of constituency 24 with polling station number 03087 located at Tongoma village; Ward 70 of constituency 23 in the Niminkoro chiefdom with polling station number 03066 located in Waidala village and Ward 87 with polling station number 03182 in the Lei chiefdom.

Kamara stated that recounting was done in the presence of police, NEC officials, party and independent candidates' agents, Political Parties' Registration Commission and elections observers.
