The second Telecom's Information, Communication and Technology Summit opened yesterday in the capital with much fanfare and anticipation over the future of global communication.
Speakers spoke of "changing economic trends", "globalisation", "innovation", "evolution", and "organisation approach".
The two-day summit is billed as "an intimate gathering of key decision makers with a strong emphasis on a very high level of networking opportunities".
"The rate of change we are seeing in the industry is unprecedented. We will be introduced by our international speakers to the concepts of unified communication, virtualisation, mobility, broadband, and many more cutting-edge service opportunities at this largest ICT summit ever held in Namibia," said Frans Ndoroma, Managing Director of Telecom Namibia.
The theme for this year's two-day summit is 'Sharing Collective Wisdom'.
Among the many speakers were Martin Nangolo, who gave a presentation on the electronic submission of tax returns.
In South Africa taxpayers have the option of submitting their tax returns via the Internet, a solution that is partly credited with the successful rate of revenue collection.
Other speakers included Theo Schoeman of Schoemans Office Systems and the renowned Namibian IT personality and researcher Christoph Stork, who analysed the new Telecommunication Bill and its implications for both mobile operators and Telecom Namibia. The summit ends today.
