The Federal Government has made its intentions known to lift Nigeria to the next level of technological attainment.

Still speaking at the celebration, the Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre , said that funds will be raised for the development, in order to help translate, research results into marketable products.

The minister disclosed that, the funds would be given to young scientists, as capital to aid them in starting businesses, adding that a commitee made up of eminent Nigerians, has been set up to get the funds started.

Her words: "In order to develop science and technology, human capital from the bottom up, government would increase the science and technology content of our school curricula. The main cause of our underdevelopment is, Nigeria's inability to create and apply knowledge", she added.

Ekpiwhre, observed that many of the industrialised countries of the world have attained leadership in the world economy, attributing their success to effective application of science and technology. She further lamented that, while the rest of the world have advanced technologically, Africa is lagging relatively behind.

"The ministry is currently spearheading research efforts and leading action in monotechnology, geared towards renewable energy and medical therapy. She further, said that, to help revamp the ailing industrial sector of the economy, the ministry is enagged in innovation studies and advanced manufacturing techonology, she revealed.
