UMUAHIA-ABIA State University Uturu, is now under serious erosion threat which could wash away some major structures in the institution if nothing is done urgently to check the menace. The magnitude of the erosion threat is clearly beyond what the university could handle alone. The university has therefore appealed to both the Federal, State and Local Governments as well as organizations like the NNDC and international agencies to come to its aid to tackle the menace.

The university is located in erosion prone Isukwuato Local Government Council. In fact, Isukwuato Local Government area is perhaps one of the worst area with erosion threat in the state.

Though the University had spent a lot of money trying to check the erosion on the campus and its environs, but its effort has not been able to adequately check the menace which has been increasing by the day.

Rather on the contrary, erosion is fast eating deep into the main campus of the institution, as some of its major structures are under severe threat. Among the structures presently under threat include faculties of Business administration and Humanities and Social sciences which are situated presently only 10 meters away from the erosion gully which measures about 20 meters deep.
