SuperSport United striker Fikru Tefera says he is devastated by news that his native Ethiopia Football Federation has been suspended by world governing body, FIFA with immediate effect.

The suspension has been enforced after the EFF failed to comply with guidelines agreed on in February to regulate the situation in the country where administrative bungles have taken the centre stage.

"I couldn't believe the news when I saw the news on Wednesday and they said we have been suspended. I kept on asking myself why is this was happening to us. I even called the national team coach straight away to get a bit of clarity on the issue.

"He did confirm that we have been suspended but said the issue will be resolved either this week or next weekend. He gave me hope that we will still play our qualifier next month against Morocco at home because we need to win that game to boost our chances of qualifying," says Tefera, an idol in his homeland.

Tefera has been part of the Ethiopian national team since 2003 when he was 17 and has featured regularly since then.

"We genuinely need to eliminate all these problems in our football because in the end, we the players are the ones that are affected. How do we as Africans in general build up hope of making an impact at the World Cup when there is such politics in our football? Nigeria, Kenya and now us this is not good at all," says Tefera, who is recovering from a slight ankle injury picked up in the Manguang Cup tournament last week.
