The minister of Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Arc. (Mrs.) Halima Tayo Alao, has urged all local and state governments nationwide to work together in order to achieve better environment for all Nigerians.

She made this call in an address at the commemoration ceremony of the International Year of Sanitation (IYS) 2008 and Hand Wash Campaign in Tabulung village,Tabulung-Kanke local government area, Jos.

Arc. Alao, who was represented by Dr. Nse Akpan, added that improved environment was an important factor to achieving better living standard which would ultimately enhance the nation's economy.

She commended the Plateau State government for providing a borehole and toilet facilities for the people of Tabulung, and enjoined all other state governments to emulate the gesture in order to achieve the target of millenium development goals 7.

In her speech at the occasion, the first lady of Plateau State, Ngo Talata Jang, called on all the indigenes of the state to stop defecating in the open henceforth and imbibe good sanitation practices which the state government is fostering.

The state commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Idi Waziri, in his speech at the occasion, hinted that the state government had approved the provision of 1,000 toilets throughout the state in the current year in order to improve sanitary conditions of the citizens.

There were goodwill messages from the United Nation'sChildren Education Fund (UNICEF), Plateau Rural Water Services Agency (PRUWASA) and Desmond Elliot Foundation.

Ngo Talata Jang commissioned two VIP toilets and a borehole for the community. The programme featured cultural dances, drama from cultural troupes and pupils of LGEA Primary School , Kanke.
