The Namibian Tourism Board is taking no chances in the fight against illegal tourism and accommodation establishments in the country.

The tourism authority is currently engaging relevant stakeholders in all regions as part of efforts to curb illegal activities in the industry.

Recently, the NTB went on road shows, covering all the regions in Namibia to seek the assistance of the Namibian Police and local and regional authorities, fishing out all illegal operators. The road shows have been ongoing since March.

Several resolutions were taken at these meetings, which must be put in place as a matter of urgency. These include, among others that the agreement by NTB and the Namibian Police to work together at the roadblocks to ensure that vehicles transporting visitors are registeredand that they meet the required standards.

Local authorities have to also provide NTB with database of all applications for all tourism related businesses, so that they can be homogenised in a central database hosted by the NTB.

A clean-up campaign according to the NTB is also on the cards on all illegal tourism businesses. It will be a launched in Windhoek before the end of the year and will be rolled out to all regions.

This working relationship has received a lot of support from the Regional Commanders of the Namibian Police and the Local and Regional Authorities. Therefore, this serves as a wake-up call to each and every one that is not in compliance with the NTB Act.
