The European Union has launched a Shs3.8billion peace building and human rights project in the conflict affected Karamoja region.
The Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Uganda, Ambassador Vincent De Visscher launched the project on Friday. It will be implemented by Save the Children in Uganda in the four districts of Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Kotido and Kaabong over 18 months.
According to a press statement from the European Union office in Kampala, the Peace Building and Human Rights Project is designed as a response strategy to address the interrelated livelihood and education concerns in the Karamoja region, arising out of the Save the Children in Uganda child protection assessment report on the situation of women and children in Karamoja region. The statement says that the EU-funded project will promote peace and stability in Karamoja.
