SEVERAL illegal structures were pulled down yesterday in Asaba, just as the new Chairman of the Waste Management Board, Mr. Frank Omare launches a pilot street to street special environment sanitation programme, aimed at clearing the streets of filth.

Besides the pulling down of illegal structures along the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) road and adjoining streets, mobile courts were raised to prosecute offenders instantly.

A new dimension was added to the exercise as the Waste Management Board engaged the services of labourers from outside to clear grown weeds in front of some compounds.

Speaking to reporters, Omare said "this pilot programme will be taken to major towns in the state not only here in Asaba.
