Airlift of intending pilgrims for this year's hajj is to commence in Kano on November 4, the Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board Alhaji Sani Lawal Kofar Mata has said. Kofar Mata said at a news conference in Kano yesterday that the deadline given by National Hajj Commission for the completion of payment of hajj fees was September 1.

He said 25 houses have been secured at the Holy Land for Kano pilgrims. Lawal said the increase in hajj fees was global and that it was because of the ongoing expansion work at the Holy Ka'abah and rising aviation fuel prices in Nigeria.

Kofar Mata urged intending pilgrims who are yet to complete their payments to do so before the deadline.

He assured intending pilgrims from the state of adequate arrangements for a successful hajj operation this year.
