Ahead of today's opening of the athletics events of the Beijing Olympic Games, Nigeria's sprint ace, Olusoji Fasuba has reiterate the determination of his colleagues in the track and field to fetch medals for the country from today.

The fastest man in Africa, who speak with Leadership Sports exclusively in Beijing said that every member of the athletics team have trained very well and are ready to win medals of whatever colour for the country, adding that it could be in the sprints or relays.

"We are focused and still very hopeful of delivering medals to the country. Having seen the poor showing of our contingent so far, we are motivated to go all out to save the country from total disgrace of leaving the Games without any medal.

"The never-say-die attitude of Nigerians will definitely see us through. On our part, it is an opportunity to show case our talents and win honors for ourselves and the country. It is a life time opportunity and we cannot afford to toy with it, even though we have our reservation as regards preparation for the Games" he stated

Asked if he was healed from the injury that almost ruined his participation at the Games, Fasuba said that he was okay now and ready to go, adding that he had been able to recover fully from the injury and set to challenge for glory even as he admitted that he will face tough opposition in the 100 metre race. According to him, every body who qualified for the Olympics is a potential medalist. "It is going to be tough but I tell you that I am not intimidated by the Americans or whoever. I am going out there to do my best and whatever happens will determine whether my best is good enough or not. One thing I know is that God would not let my efforts be in vain," he quipped

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Nigeria Athletics Federation (NAF) Mrs. Maria Worphil has disclosed that the athletes were in good shape for the opening of the track and field on Friday, stressing that there was no injury worries in the team.
