Moroka Swallows' transfer-listed midfielder Hellings Mwakasungula has been plunged into a valley of darkness after Mpumalanga Black Aces scuttled their plans to sign the Malawian on loan.
Mwakasungula initially looked a definite to complete a season-long loan move to Aces when he started training with the club a month ago.
But the move has fallen through after Swallows suddenly changed their minds and demanded a transfer fee from Aces.
"Swallows are now demanding a transfer fee for Mwakasungula. Initially, it looked as if the arrangement was that Swallows would continue paying his salary while he gets to play at Aces.
"However, Aces have pulled out now that Swallows want a transfer fee for a permanent deal. At this stage Swallows are reluctant to release the player for free," says a source.
When contacted the 28-year-old Mwakasungula said his future was entirely in the hands of club boss Leon Prins.
"There is not much I can do at this stage because I still respect that I am under contract, though I am no longer in the team's plans. For now, I am just training on my own while waiting to hear from Leon. I know that time is no longer on my side because I will not be able to move after the closure of the transfer window at the end of the month if I am still under contract at Swallows.
"I hope my situation will be sorted soon, but I don't know how that will happen. If I am not playing, then it could have a great effect on my form ahead of the national team's qualifiers next month," says Mwakasungula.

Mwakasungula was signed by Ian Gorowa at the beginning of last season from Silver Stars in his homeland, but failed to command a regular starting place in the team.
