Negotiations for new Comesa tariffs in which Kenyan business people will benefit from reduced taxes have entered the final stage.

Industrialisation assistant minister Ndiritu Muriithi told the Nation that the new tariffs on goods entering the Comesa market will be implemented in December this year.

Mr Muriithi said the custom union will come up with a variation on tax exemption on various goods from the member states, and the current negotiations are to find out at what minimum level this will be.

The common tariff would strengthen Kenya's share in the Comesa market. Mr Muriithi was speaking at the offices of the Kenya Investment Authority, Nairobi on Friday

"Kenya's market in the Comesa has gradually increased with the country exporting 50 million in agro-machinery annually," he said. During the meeting , the assistant minister heard that Kenya does not have a commercial attaché in Sweden.
