Rwanda: First Ladies Discuss Advocacy

The First Lady of Rwanda, Mrs Jeannette Kagame on Friday, 22 August, met with her Burundian counterpart, First Lady Denise Nkurunziza.
This was part of President Paul Kagame's three-day official visit to Burundi, which begun on Thursday.
Mrs Kagame began with a visit to Buntu Foundation offices, which was founded by Mrs Nkurunziza.
While there, Mrs Kagame shared experiences regarding Imbuto Foundation which she founded in December 2007, focusing on initiatives in health, education and economic empowerment.
Both parties also discussed common activities such as the First Ladies' Campaign; Treat Every Child as Your Own, which both First Ladies advocate for.
Buntu Foundation supports vulnerable groups, such as orphans, people living with HIV and the elderly.
Mrs Nkurunziza outlined some of the challenges they faced regarding their activities, and requested support from Mrs Kagame regarding advocacy messages which Mrs Kagame promised to give accordingly.
Thereafter, the First Ladies visited Centre Nouvelle Esperance (Centre of New Hope), which serves as a clinic for people living with HIV, and conducts income-generating activities for its patients.
The Centre is supported by Buntu Foundation, which makes advocacy messages on its behalf, as well as conducting social and resources mobilization for the centre.
In her remarks to the beneficiaries at the Centre, Mrs Kagame offered support in finding markets for the handicrafts created by the beneficiaries.

Both delegations then attended a luncheon at Club du Lac Tanganyika, which was attended by various Burundian women leaders.
