The community of Okakarara is hard at work to prepare for the second annual Okakarara Trade Fair slated for September 2 -6.
Fair organizers expect 230 exhibitors at the three-day event that has 60 more exhibitors compared to last year's 170 exhibitors.
According to Councillor Vetaruhe Kandorozu, member of the organizing committee, special emphasis would be put on small and medium enterprise (SME) exhibitors.
A total of 42 SME's have confirmed their participation.
The Okakarara Trade Fair Society (OTFS), which was set up in 2006, says the objective of the fair is to promote growth and entrepreneurship at the town, as well as to offer a platform for networks and business contacts between the various exhibitors.
"It's a fact that the economic base of Okakarara town and its surrounding settlement areas are mainly based on small and medium enterprises and the agricultural sector, thus the OTFS will greatly enhance business opportunities for local entrepreneurs to get better marketing opportunities for their products and services," stressed Kandorozu.
Kandorozu says key stakeholders have shown commitment and willingness to see that this year's trade fair becomes yet another success story.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry, corporate entities and members of the Okakarara community have thus far managed to collect close to N$300 000, an amount described by Kandorozu as sufficient to pull off the event.
The Okakarara Trade Fair Society says so far the fair has attracted about 100 local and regional companies most of which are SMEs.
Textiles and garments, crafts and household products will be showcased as well as a wide variety of services offered in the region.
Since the region's focus is on agriculture, products like cattle and all kinds of agricultural tools will receive the main attention.
One of the highlights of the trade fair, doubtlessly, is a cattle auction. More than 20 farmers have so far pledged their participation and a total of 50 livestock will be traded.
An attractive entertainment programme including music and a beauty pageant for "Miss Okakarara Trade Fair" will complement events at the fair. Some 10 000 visitors are expected during the three-day fair.
The closing date for registration is this coming Friday.
