Angola: Farming Micro-Credit Favours Large Scale Production

About 22,224 peasants associated into cooperatives nationwide have already benefited from the farming micro-credit, since 2007, thereby, enabling the boosting of large scale production, ANGOP learnt on Monday from the chairperson of the Unaca-Confederation of Associations of Farmers and Farming Cooperatives of Angola, Paulo Uime.

The official stated that the government granted USD 6.107 millions that were spent on the acquisition of farming tools, from which USD 723,827 have already been reimbursed.

He stated that the beneficiaries are members of 538 cooperatives and 974 associations and that, slowly, the programme will be covering every peasant.

Paulo Uime explained that the amounts granted, which vary between USD 100 and 1,500, are offered groups made up of seven peopleand at this stage the programme has already reached all provinces.

Benguela with 7,761, Huambo with 4,889, Uíge with 2,891, Zaire with 1,306, and Cabinda with 1,078 are the provinces with the highest number of farmers who benefited from the credit.
