Angola: Prime Minister Calls for Increase in Fish Supply

The Angolan Prime-minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Wednesday in Luanda urged the artisan fishermen and ship-owners to contribute to the increase of fish supply to the population and create more direct and indirect jobs.
Addressing a hand over ceremony of 150 fishing boats, of which 147 artisans and three semi-industrials to the Luanda-based fishermen, the Angolan Premier said that it was necessary to ensure the maintenance of the newly delivered equipments, in order to meet the government's expectation.
The Angolan Prime-minister considered pertinent the event, once the success of the Fisheries Ministry means the government's contribution to the fighting against hunger, poverty and unemployment, across the country.
According to him, the hand over of these vessels is evidence that the government's programme is being accomplished on time and parameters established with good results, as it will facilitate the national citizens to improve the dietary intake.
He also called for confidence between the beneficiaries and the government, in the course of this wide and integrated programme, starting with 2007/08 period.
To the Angolan Premier, the programme also includes, acquisition and distribution of refrigerator trucks to secure the ferrying of the catch, the creation and building of cold-storage rooms, in14 provinces of the country, to keep the fish cool.
The government also intends to buy trucks to ferry dry fish and salt.
Fernando da Piedade availed himself of the occasion to appeal to the population for correct vote, in order that the government of the coming four-year term can keep on the actions leading to socio-economic development of the country.
The first phase of the project ends on Thursday with the delivery of the equipments to the fishermen of the south-western Namibe province.
