A number of top Israeli companies involved in agriculture, energy, telecommunication and cosmetics have expressed interest in partnering local firms in business ventures, an official said this week.
The Middle East nation, with a population of less than six million people, is among the world's leading industrialised economies with exports of more than US$30 billion per year.
The Israeli companies, through the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, have tasked the Christian Friends of Israel Zimbabwe (CFIZ) to identify indigenous firms willing to partner them in various ventures.
CFIZ has for the past years been organising business trips to Israel to explore trade opportunities and learn how the country had managed to become a leading exporter in the world.
Director Yisrael Yehudah said that Zimbabwe must take advantage of this and boost its relations with Israel as the Middle East had vast trade opportunities in areas such as solar energy and dairy farming, which the country could tap into.
"We have received a number of inquires from Israeli firms that want to do business with local companies," Yehudah said.
He said the week-long trade trip set for next month would allow the organisation to link-up Israeli firms with some of the Zimbabwean companies.
"Various business forums have been lined-up to enable interested Israeli companies to strike deals with our local firms," he said, adding four top firms in cosmetics looked set to seal deals with Zimbabwean companies during the July 19-25 trip.
Such a move would enable Zimbabwe to become a leading cosmetics exporter in Africa as most of the region sources its beauty and skin care products from Israel.
Cooperation in other areas such as solar energy and dairy farming, would allow the country to address its energy crisis as well as boost agricultural pro- duction.
"Having strong trade links with Israel will see the country become a key link between Israel and Africa," Yehudah said.
"It will enable the country to boost its exports as well as penetrate new markets," he added.
Israel has an advanced technology with companies such as Israel Motorola in the telecommunication sector rated as among the best in the world.
