Some 133 Cameroonian artists have received over FCFA 150 million being a special fund given to them as State subvention.

The Minister of Culture, Ama Tutu Muna, distributed the money to the artists during a ceremony her ministry organised at the national museum.Ama Muna said the sums paid constituted the 3rd and 4th quotas of the 2006 subventions for artists.

She said the ministry was happy to put an end to the long wait in the face of frustrations suffered by the beneficiaries.Meanwhile, the Minister told the artists to remain united and shun mediocrity. Ama said hard work is the only way through which they can benefit from the special fund. She stated that the fund created by President Paul Biya is to support artists as well as to help budding artists to rise to prominence.

According to her, culture contributes enormously to the economic growth of Cameroon.

She, however, regretted that some artists could not benefit from the subvention since their application files had incomplete documents.
