Kickoff (Cape Town)

Posted to the web 29 August 2008

If plans afoot materialize Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns could get a warm up before meeting in the MTN 8 final when they lock horns in the proposed King's Cup on Sunday, September 7.

The inaugural event, set to honour King Goodwill Zwelithini, will see Durban teams AmaZulu and Thanda Royal Zulu also participating.

The Zulu monarch is honorary president for both clubs.

Although details are still to be finalised, KickOff.com has it on good authority that preparations for the tournament are well underway.

It is understood that Orlando Pirates initially agreed to be part of this historic event, however, they have now been forced to decline the invitation to participate. Their reasons for the pull out have not been made clear at this stage.
