Police in Busia are holding a 40-year-old Congolese national for being in possession of counterfeit US dollars and fake Congolese currency.

Songolo Mulinga was on Wednesday arrested at the border while crossing from Kenya to Uganda.

"He had fake $2,100 in the denomination of $100 and five million fake Congolese currency. He confessed that the fake money, hidden in his bag, was made in Kenya and he intended to take it to the D.R Congo," the Busia district police commander Nasur Oringa said.

Oringa said another person was being investigated for dealing in fake currency along the border.

The eastern regional police spokesman, Idi Senkumbi, said the Police were jointly working with the Uganda Revenue Authority, to stop the entry of fake currency into Uganda.
