Benni McCarthy says captaining Bafana Bafana against Nigeria was the proudest moment of his footballing career.
The Blackburn Rovers striker, who won the Uefa Champions League with FC Porto, also says the team can be pleased with their performance, despite the 1-0 defeat to the Super Eagles.
"I am proud as a player and proud as captain," he says. "This is without doubt the proudest day of my career to be made captain of my country in such an important game.
"We are disappointed with the result, but we gave everything out there and we will only get better in the lead-up to 2010. It was really difficult on a bumpy pitch, but we still played some great football."
Asked whether he would like to continue in the role as skipper, McCarthy brought a smile to the assembled press.
