Metta women in Momo division regrouped under the Isang Women's group recently shelved their war on violence against women and went encouraging the production of Art works back home women as a way forward to lift the cultural image of the Metta clan, create opportunities for employment and check idleness amongst youths.

Their commitment was demonstrated through the organisation of an exhibition of Art works that attracted the best from all the 29 villages of Metta clan. The welcome show in Mbengwi produced Bome zone as the overall best with art woks that excel. The zone exhibited impressive fibre, wood, raffia and aluminium works of art while Ta-ah and Medig zones emerged 2nd and 3rd respectively. The contest fetched FCFA 100.000 in prizes for the best.

The inspiration according to the President of the Isang women group, Barrister Isabelle Fomukong is traced to their conviction that the "struggle to eliminate violence against women can only be achieved with the economic empowerment of women". In effect, Barrister Isabelle Fomukong told participants at the event about the sorry and helpless state of women without the required income to fight violence perpetrated against them.

Launching the exhibition on August 29th,2008 organisers revealed that after running seminars in Douala, Bamenda and Buea on violence against women, they discovered that neighbouring clans to Metta have a lot to offer in craft works while Mettas have little or nothing to show. It was against this backdrop that they decided to initiate the creation of a Craft Centre in the area to assemble and stock works that can attract tourists, fetch money and curb the massive exodus of youths in search of employment opportunities elsewhere.

Around to salute the initiative, the Second Assistant SDO of Momo, Orock Benjamin Agbor encouraged the clan to produce art works in large quantities since the Isang women's group has stated preparedness to stand by them and secure a market for the items. He told them about the Ministry of Small and Medium sized Enterprises as a major inspiration in government's commitment to promote the sector while the Mayor of Mbengwi, Tah Mbah George urged Metta people who idle in towns to return home and engage in Art works that pay.

He also inspired the population to produce quality products that can easily sell. Meanwhile, the Fon of Kubayang, Fon Foyam appealed to teachers to ask pupils to offer craft works in handwork and not money as a way to encourage the sector.
