The Bauchi State Government has directed for the immediate release of 5,000 bags of grains which include rice and sorghum from its strategic reserve for distribution to the people free of charge.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the executive council meeting that lasted for more than four hours.

He said the decision of the government to adopt this measure was to cushion the effects of the spiraling prices of grains in the open market, saying all the 5,000 bags would be shared among the 20 local government councils of the state.

He also said government had concluded arrangement to engage the services of former American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Howard Jeter, as a consultant to the state government for one year to advance the economic interest of the state in the United States and at a global level.

The Commissioner explained that government believed that Ambassador Jetter would bring his experience to bear in facilitating the development of the state in different sectors and institutions through linkages between the government and such institutions.

He is also expected to promote the interest of the state, particularly in Agriculture, Solid Minerals, Education, Trade, Health, Tourism and Commerce.

He stated that government had approved the training of 20 female students as medical doctors in Egypt who will be selected on merit and geographical spread in the state while government had approved plans of the College Of Education Azare to start running Degree Programmes.
