The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Saturday, September 6, silenced their Cape Verde counterparts 2-1 to qualify for the next stage of the joint 2010 World and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Emana wrestles with Cape Verde defenders
The match that took place at the Moni Deïdo stadium in Praia, Cape-Verde, was one of day-five encounters on the continent.The Cape-Verdeans opened scores at the 39th minute through midfielder Claudio Aguiar to the dismay of the Lions, who are the best on the continent following FIFA's September ranking.

The Lions, who were playing without the Blaugrana striker Samuel Eto'o Fils, intensified pressure until another substitute for the Lions, Somen a Tchoyi who came in at the 46th minute, struck the winner at the 65th minute.
Eto'o could not play the match following two bookings he received in At the end of the encounter, Cape Verdean head coach, Joao de Deus said his boys played so well considering it was against Africa's best team. He added that he knew they couldn't win but that he merely wanted to know the strength of his boys.
The Post gathered that Lions coach, Otto Pfister, on his part complained that his boys were not used to synthetic pitches while adding that the essential was done thanks to his timely substitutions and the team's experience.
The Lions therefore consolidate their first position in Group I with 13 points followed by Cape Verde with nine points. In the other Group 1 match, Tanzania whitewashed the Mauritius Island 4-1.
