United States-based professionals, including Nigerian-born Professor Charles Okigbo, will storm Abuja next week to prepare to educate tertiary institutions, non-government organisations and educational agencies on how to raise funds for their programmes.

The fundraising experts will collaborate with the Ken Nnamani Centre for Leadership and Development (KNCLD) to host workshops from October 6 to 10 in the Nigerian capital city.

"A capital campaign being a major commitment to attract serious money from target benefactors for specific projects over a period of time, usually three to five years, requires serious planning by NGOs and academic institutions," says Okigbo, who teaches communications and organisational leadership at North Dakota State University, Fargo, USA. "The primary objective is to raise serious money, but the ultimate goal is to solve pressing problems and thereby achieve a better society."

Other resource persons will include Dr. Mark Schmidt, a professor of educational research and leadership; Ms Lori Thompson, a doctoral scholar in fundraising and education; Ms Shelly Stowman, a strategic planning and organisational development expert; and Mr. Mike Kiedrowski, a fundraising consultant working with religious and educational organisations.
