The Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, stressed the need for making increased contribution on the part of the society so that the substantial investment being made in education could achieve the desired objective.
He made the remarks in a seminar he conducted to directors, teachers and students of the Warsay-Yikaalo School and the National Vocational Training Center in Sawa.
Mr. Semere pointed out that human potential is Eritrea's rich resource and that the greater portion of the national budget is allocated towards the development of education. In this respect, the Minister indicated that a number of schools from kindergarten up to the level of college have been opened across the nation thanks to the vigorous efforts made over the past 17 years to expand educational opportunities.
Noting that there are about 700,000 students and 13,000 teachers at present, Mr. Semere stated that the Warsay-Yikaalo School in Sawa is providing educational opportunities to students from 64 different high schools in the country. He further explained that the school aims at nurturing dynamic youths equipped with the necessary knowledge and skill, in addition to playing active role in the nation-building process. In this connection, the Minister called on the students to avail themselves of the available educational opportunities and called on institutions and students to do their level best in backing up the Government's endeavors to promote human resource development.
