Kumasi
The deputy Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Adbul Munim Harum, says violence was distasteful in the sight of Allah (God), and therefore judgment awaited those nation-wreckers who play mischief during elections.
He has therefore appealed to the Moslem youth in the country, not to allow themselves to be used as a conduit by politicians, to perpetrate violence and cause confusion in any form whatsoever.
Speaking at the occasion of Eidul Fitir at the Central Mosque in Kumasi yesterday, the Islamic Scholar asked the large congregation of Moslem worshippers, to be at peace with each other, for it to transcend into the December polls.
According to him, women and children were the most affected people, when incidents of political violence lead to conflict situations.
He believed politics was about ideas as to how a nation should be governed, and not violence.
Alhaji Harum said everyone was a political animal though, getting too partisan was not the best for the nation, because it sought to polarise Ghana on party lines.
"Woe unto those who preach about violence, and they shall eat its fruit, because Prophet Mohamed told us that Allah would grant to us our heart desires," he pointed out, and warned all politicians to be circumspect in their utterances.
The Deputy Regional Chief Imam also requested Moslem parents, to take their wards to school, since education was necessary for human growth.
In an address, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, admonished them to begin a new life after the Ramadan, because that was the essence of observing the month of fasting.
According to him, peace was expensive, and that all Ghanaians were obliged to safeguard the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the country.
To him, election was not about violence and conflict, which in most cases leads to destruction of lives and property, and retards nation building as a whole.
"Our differences do not mean we are enemies. We should see ourselves as one people always, before any other considerations," he advised.
Cape Coast
From Cape Coast David Allan Paintsil & Magdalene Sey report that hundreds of Muslims yesterday thronged the Holy Child School Park in Cape Coast, to offer prayers to Allah, to mark the celebration of Eid -Ul-Fitr, after one month of fasting and prayers.
The Muslims, made up of adults and children, arrived at the park, as early 7:30 a.m. to participate in prayers, to mark the end of a period of 30 days fasting.
Speaking at the function, the Deputy Central Regional Chief Imam, Sheik Imam Yussif Kamati, advised the people to live in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran, so as to inherit the Kingdom of God.
Sheik Kamati observed that the period of fasting was a holy one, and advised the people to refrain from reverting to their bad characters, after fasting and praying for 30 days.
He said Islam was about peace and love for one another, and implored Muslims to love themselves and follow the footsteps of Prophet Mohammed, the originator of the Islamic Religion.
The Central Regional Minister, Stephen Nana Ato Arthur, who also spoke at the function, advised the Muslims to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme, to send their children to school, in order to enable the country to develop.
He also advised them not to allow themselves, to be used by politicians for any electoral violence, so as to ensure peaceful elections.
Ato Arthur donated a bull and GH¢100 cash, to support the Eid -Ul-Fitr celebrations.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Ms. Mercy Arhin, accompanied Nana Ato Arthur to the prayer grounds.
The flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, and followers, also participated in the function.
Meanwhile, shortly after the prayers, the Muslims went on a picnic through the principal streets of Cape Coast, amidst brass band music, to signify the end of the Ramadan.
