Many CRDB Bank customers in Bukoba flew into a panic last weekend after the bank's ATMs failed to dispense cash due to what was later described as a "technical hitch".

Most people who tried to get cash from the machines failed and yet their balances kept decreasing with each attempt.

CRDB Bank Bukoba branch manager Emmanuel Chaburuma said the problem was not unusual and assured the bank's customers that they would not lose their money.

"You know, this is not the first time we have experienced such as a problem. It is not unusual for ATMs to develop technical problems during rainy or cloudy weather.

"I wish to assure all clients who couldn't get cash from our ATMs that their money is safe. Fears that people have lost their money are unfounded," he said.

Mr Chaburuma confirmed that over 20 customers could not get cash from the ATMs.
