The just-ended first two-day Business Roundtable with the Government singled out three bottlenecks that President Kikwete's Government needs to address urgently.
The chairperson of the conference aimed at "Building on success maximizing Tanzania's business potential", Ms Pratibha Thaker cited infrastructure as the major bottleneck to rapid business and economic growth.
This coupled with government bureaucracy and uncertainty in reforms have left investors worried that things might not get any better.
Therefore, he group would like to see the Government keep track of the business environment reforms to boost their confidence.
The conference's challenges must be taken seriously, especially in the second stage. The first stage, that of Government accepting criticism/challenges from the private sector at the forum, impressed a good number of the delegates, although in some cases, they did not get timeline-based answers.
The most crucial part now lies ahead - action! That is delivering on promises and commitments made before both existing local and foreign investors and would-be investors.
We are saying so because this is not the first time such impediments to business and economic growth have been brought to the Government's attention. Unless the Government acts this time around, these forums will remain mere talking shops.
