Tunisia: President Ben Ali Honors Recipients of the 2008 Islamic Studies Prize

Tunis — President Ben Ali convened on Friday a number of Imam -preachers to dinner. The Prime Minister, the Speakers of the Chamber of Deputies and Advisors, the members of the Democratic Constitutional Rally's (RCD) political bureau, the Mufti of the Republic and the members of the government were also invited.

The Head of State also chaired a ceremony to honor recipients of the President of the Republic, 2008 Islamic Studies Prize.

This Prize was awarded to Dr Rawnak Hassen Hosni , Professor at the University of Heriot and the University of Durham in the United Kingdom, as well as to Professor Daniel Newman , Professor at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom.

President Ben Ali also honored the winners of the Tunis International contest for the memorization, the singing and the exegesis of the Koran, by awarding them prizes.

They are:

- Kamel Smida (Tunis)

- Mohamed Kheir El Anwar (Indonesia)

- Mohamed Ben Ahmed (Tunis)

- Houssam Marzouk (Tunis)

- Moubarak El Mouhannadi (Qatar)

The Head of State also honored the winners of the memorization of the Koran contest.

They are:

- First Prize: the student Safwane Daboussi (Governorate of Kairouan)

- Second Prize: the student Abdelbari M'hadhebi (Governorate of Nabeul))

- Third Prize: the student Mariem Berrzaga (Governorate of Nabeul).
