Arewa Youths Assembly for Justice and Good Governance, has appealed to President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to reinstate the embattled former chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Sam Edem, saying the circumstances, leading to his sack was political and with sinister interests to put a halt to Federal Government's development strategies in the area.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, its National Chairman, Umaru Farouk Mohammed said: "The highly respected and honourable envoy was a victim of an organised fraud.

"He was duped by fraudsters who recruited some of his most trusted aides to execute the plot. By the time he realised that it was a scam, he had lost a lot of money which were mostly contributions to his gubernatorial campaign funds. As a responsible and law abiding citizen, Ambassador Edem had no alternative than to report the matter to the police at Zone 5 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force in Benin, headed by Mr. Ekpoudom. The police went to arrest the fraudster and his cohorts where they recovered 10 expensive jeeps, a hotel complex and other assets, including a savings account with Oceanic Bank ".

He also stated that the perpetrators involved the former SGF, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe into announcing his suspension and subsequent arrest, and that the irony was Ambassador Sam Edem did all he could to recover his money but was frustrated and blackmailed, adding that President Umaru Ya'Adua, from their investigations only minuted to the former SGF that the chairman of NDDC should be investigated and the report submitted to him, but was not to suspend the chairman and the subsequent 15 days detention he was put through.

On their prayers to the Federal Government, the assembly said: "In the light of the above, we are appealing to Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to without delay and in the spirit of his administration policy of observing the rule of law, reinstate Ambassador Sam Edem back to office as NDDC chairman, so as to complete his term. Of all the appointments held by this diplomat, he has never been found wanting.
