The town of Chitungwiza is set to roar into life when more than 15 gospel musicians clash during the inaugural Chitungwiza Central Hospital Gospel Music Fundraising Gala slated for Chibuku Stadium tomorrow.

Musicians billed to thrill revellers during the family fun day concert include Mahendere Brothers, Diva Mafunga, Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Pax Gomo, Mai Guvamombe, Nyaradzo Mashayamombe, Spiwe Chimuti, Munyaradzi "Mupositori" Muchetu, Mabasa Evapositori and Baba and Amai Mazondo.

The hospital's public relations officer, Audrey Tasaranarwo said the aim of the gala was to raise funds to be channelled towards the construction of a children home, maternity wing and the purchase of essential drugs and food for the institution.

"The gala seeks to raise funds for the construction of a children's home, maternity wing, drugs, the improvement of dietary food and other costs required to run the hospital," she said.

Tasaranarwo -- who explained that they were targetting to raise around $100 million or more from the show -- said the idea of the gospel gala was first mooted three years ago after some gospel artistes and some members of the public had requested them to host one that would cater for a family and religious background.

"When we started with sungura giants, there was overwhelming appreciation and interest from some gospel musicians and members of the public who were requesting for a similar show that was conducive for church goers and kids.

"The answer was this concert where families can go and enjoy in an ideal atmosphere while supporting their hospital," she said.

Speaking on behalf of the musicians, Pax Gomo urged the people Chitungwiza and from other walks of life to come in their numbers and rally behind the gala.

"Come and support every church represented by the musicians. Artistes should be part of this programme to support their hospital and avoid coming on the last minute," he said.

Mupositori Muchetu concurred with Gomo saying: "The money to be made from this show will not go into our pockets but will go a long way in assisting the institution."
