The opposition Civic United Front (CUF) secretary general, Mr Seif Sharif Hamad, yesterday cautioned President Jakaya Kikwete to be wary of praises showered on him by Western countries and international organisations.
He told a public rally in Dar es Salaam that the President should instead look for ways to keep the local people happy and satisfied because they voted him to the highest office on the land.
Hundreds of CUF supporters took to the streets in the city yesterday demanding the arrest and prosecution of officials linked to allegations of grand corruption scandals that he claimed have cost the nation billions of shillings that could have otherwise been invested in the social services sector.
The party's SG asserted that praises showered to the President by "international donors" would not make any difference to Tanzanians if they are discontented with his administration.
Mr Hamad expressed his disgust over Mr Kikwete's frequent trips abroad allegedly in search of personal recognition instead of devoting more of his to serving the people.
"What Tanzanians want today is to see all big shots linked to corruption are prosecuted in courts of law," the CUF leader said.
He warned that Western countries have no permanent friends with anybody as they always turn their backs after fulfilling their national interest.
On his part, CUF chairman Prof Ibrahim Lipumba claimed that corruption and selfishness has subjected Tanzanians to miserable lives, calling on the Government to address problems the people faced.
He cited the opening of doors to foreigners in the name of investors to rip the country's wealth at the expense of Tanzanians who live in abject poverty.
He claimed that the Government has lost control of foreigners who presently break the laws of the land with impunity because some leaders collude with them.
He called for the formation of an independent electoral commission to coordinate and supervise elections to ensure polls are free and fair.
