The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said yesterday it released the Managing Director of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), Mr. Sarki Bates Sule, to avoid unnecessary detention.
This came as operatives of the commission stormed the head office of the company at the Murtala Mohammed Airport yesterday in furtherance of its investigations.
The NAHCo helmsman was arrested last Wednesday by operatives of the commission over allegation of diversion of the company's N150 million realised from proceeds of its last initial public offer as well as inflation of contract sum of renovation of the company's office in Port Harcourt to N60 million from N18 million.
EFCC spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, told Vanguard that Sule was released to avoid holding anybody in the commission's cell.
"He was arrested and released yesterday (Wednesday) because we don't want to hold anybody unnecessarily while investigation is still on. But whenever we have course to arrest him, we shall do so," Babafemi said.
He said Sule's release would not affect ongoing investigations into the allegations against him, confirming the presence of the commission's operatives at NAHCo head office.
According to him, their presence is in furtherance of the investigation of allegations levelled against the NAHCo boss.
Meanwhile, operatives of the commission yesterday took over NAHCo's head office at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, ransacking offices for documents.
Movements into and out of the company's premises were restricted while the exercise lasted, just as staff of the company were seen in groups discussing the development.
