East and Central Africa welterweight champion Mada Maugo has secured a promoter in South Africa.

Maugo told The Citizen that the promoter, Branco Branco, decided to include him in his stable after seeing him fight South African Vincent Vuma in South Africa recently.

He said Branco was so impressed that he asked him to extend his stay in South Africa and train at his gym.

"I'm now in South Africa after my bout against Vuma my dream has finally started to come true. I did not expect to be approached by a respected promoter such as Branco. I think this is the beginning of the big breakthrough I have been looking for."

Maugo said he was confident that Branco would enable him win a major international title in the next few months.

"Branco has great things in store for me. He saw from my fight with Vuma that I have the potential to go all the way to the world title. Now that I'm in good hands Tanzanians should expect big things from me," he said, adding that the link-up had already been communicated to local professional boxing governing bodies.

Maugo added that he would train in South Africa for a month before returning home to prepare for his next fight to be by organised by Branco.

In another development, Maugo blamed his second round TKO loss to Vuma on "sabotage".

He said he was leading when someone in his corner threw in the towel.

"It left me speechless. I was ahead on points and was shocked to see the bout stopped after somebody threw in the towel. I see this as nothing but sabotage," Maugo said.

He added that boxing fans who attended the bout were bitterly disappointed after the fight was stopped and Vuma declared the winner.
