First lady Sia Koroma has launched the health for all coalition-Sierra Leone at the conference hall of the reproductive health services division of the ministry of health and sanitation on Fourah Bay Road in Freetown.
Health for all coalition is a civic advocacy group, which was formed to strengthen civil society advocacy on the realization of the millennium development goals, MDGS on health.
The objective of the organization was to collaborate with stakeholders in the health sector in order to reduce the high incidence of maternal and child mortality.
Speaking on the theme: 'Building advocacy coalition for increased commitment to save children and pregnant women's lives in Sierra Leone,' Mrs. Koroma called on nurses to change their attitudes toward patients, especially pregnant women.
She said health for all coalition has implored government to look at the possibility of increasing budgetary allocation for the ministry of health in line with the Abuja declaration.
She urged for a scope of concerted approach towards the improvement of the healthcare delivery system in the country.
Madam Koroma said she intends to explore options together with partners in the health sector to promote maternal and child health countrywide.
"The conditions of service in the medical profession are deterring nurses to perform their duties properly. There are prospects to improve the country's health sector," he said.
Programme manager reproductive and child health services Dr. Magnus Ken Gborie said cabinet had approved the establishment of the national health services commission.
Dr. Gborie also spoke about the newly launched reproductive and child health strategic plan that would be used as a comprehensive framework to improve maternal and child health in the country.
He lauded health for all coalition for its initiative saying this would help strengthen the partnership between his ministry and the coalition.
Chairman of the organization Charles Mambu spoke on the vision and the way forward in achieving the MDGs.
