A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman Leda has asked the state governor, Alh. Aliyu Mahmuda Shinkafi to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), saying, "As a man of vision and purpose, he will be an asset in the mainstream PDP rather than being in the opposition."

According to Leda, "Shinkafi and Yar'Adua are leaders of like minds. They have the same ideologies of transparency, honesty and good governance and the same qualities of patience, tolerance and foresight, and therefore, it is proper they work together under a PDP platform."

Speaking to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND yesterday, the PDP chieftain believed that, "It is in the interest of Zamfara and the North that many northerners, including myself, believe that Shinkafi should join the right party and join hands with his brother, President Yar'Adua to salvage the region and consequently move the nation forward."

He said the state had been in opposition for too long, a situation, he regretted, has retarded its development.

Leda called on other well-meaning stalwarts from both within the PDP and the opposition in the state to join hands in asking the governor to take the decision to save the state.

"With just about 16 months in office, the governor has shocked people with his performance. He is doing well and some of us know that he is best suited in our party. He has a lot of distractions within his party, and that is affecting his performance," he said.

The call is one of many on Shinkafi to cross over to the PDP.

When Nigeria became independent, it inherited three political parties, namely; the NPC, NCNC and the Action Group. The Northern People's Congress advocated for the interests of the North, while… [Read Full Text]
